What does freedom mean to you?
Freedom is conquering fear and insecurities. It's taking control over negative thoughts and confidently loving myself.
Why did you pursue the Women in Freedom Photoshoot?
To celebrate myself and my new found freedom! To fully embrace my new body regardless of my age or weight, and to live fully and do things out of my comfort zone!
Share a bit about your personal story and where you are today. In what ways have you stepped into your freedom recently?
About 3 1/2 years ago I was depressed and hated myself, mainly my looks. I was going deeper into a shell afraid to try any new activities or socialize with others (outside of a few close friends). I would avoid cameras as much as possible and hide in the back for family/friend photos. My self confidence was so low that I was afraid of doing anything that would possibly make me feel like a failure. I would plan exciting adventures for the family but would not attend or participate.
I grew up playing competitive softball achieving many high accolades. Softball was my identity, it was how I felt successful and loved. When that chapter ended I began to struggle with weight and my self image. I temporarily filled the void with a good job and then by taking care of my family. Being independent financially, giving and making others happy was what made me feel worthy. Everything seemed to have a season that ended and with that came more depression and heightened my insecurities.
It was when my children left the home, I hit my lowest point. With strong encouragement and unconditional love from my husband (btw, I am extremely blessed to have him), I dug deep and began my weight loss journey. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. I remained committed to the new "lifestyle" vs dieting. As everyone knows dieting is temporary! My goal was 30-35lbs but the weight continued to fall off. After 10 months I lost 53lbs and then for the next 6 months my body toned itself. Half of the time, I still do not see the "new me" hence another reason I pursued The Women in Freedom photoshoot. I truly have never felt this proud of myself. The pressure of seeking others approval or acceptance to feel worthy is gone. I did it! I still at times doubt myself as my mind is slower to accept the new found freedom but I as others am a "work in progress!"
How has this experience shaped the way you see yourself?
That is just it, I still don't always see myself as this beautiful! I still doubt at times and can self sabotage myself. It is a daily choice and these photos are a constant reminder, uhhhh yes that is you! You are beautiful inside and out so let it show! You can tackle any obstacle! It is never too late!
How has this life of freedom had a positive impact on you?
I am so much more confident in exuding my happiness and sharing it with others. I want to help others to believe in themselves. Never give up, everyone is worth it regardless of their age, physical limitations, or past experiences.
What was the most meaningful aspect of this photoshoot to you?
Celebrating myself completely! Being vulnerable and showing myself in one of the most rawest forms (no more hiding). In doing so, I have beautiful images of ME, yep that is me. I still can't believe it!
How do you plan to hold onto this feeling of unique freedom?
Making that choice every day to love myself! When that insecurity or fear creeps in, CHOOSE to conquer it! I will push myself to experience new things, believe in myself and tackle any obstacles that come my way.

Kelsey is an amazing women and photographer! She is so easy to trust! She made me feel like a beautiful young woman living free. She has a gift and gave me memories I will cherish for a lifetime. I am so thankful for you, Kelsey!
